The metaphor of "walking" is often used in Scripture to describe our lives with God (Gen.5:24; 17:1; Gal.5:16; I John 1:7). "Our God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (Isa.40:29-31). Perhaps Isaiah "descends" in intensity here, from soaring, running, and ending with walking, because he knows most of us don't soar or run every day, but we do and can "walk". My overall hope with each blog entry? To encourage you to walk with me as I walk with Him.

Walking in the Rain
Like many of you, I like to walk. And, when I have the time, walking, combined with a multi-day backpacking trek, is my favorite way of padding my pedometer. Years ago, I learned from a seasoned hiker, that if you are out on a trail for more than a week, you...
He’s Alive and I’m Forgiven
The Title to this brief blog comes from an old song by Don Francisco with the title, "He's Alive". My younger readers have probably never heard of this particular artist, but he was kind of a big deal when I was a new Christian. His song, "He's Alive" was one of the...
It’s harder than you could ever imagine! (What they don’t tell you about the Christian life)
Perhaps you’ve heard (or shared!) sentiments like the following . . . “Jesus has a wonderful plan for your life.” “Just follow Jesus and He will . . .” (Spoiler alert: The word "just" is what really messes this one up!) “God wants you to enjoy your best life now”...
Life is Simple, Eat, Sleep, and Hike (A Hiker’s perspective on the “simple” life)
(The following is a bit longer of a post than I will usually make, but this is something I wrote a number of years back after my walk on a short portion of the Appalachian Trail. I hope you enjoy!) As my family and I were spending some time together in West Virginia a...
Filling the Feeder
I just finished filling the bird feeder outside my study window here at CrossWay. I chuckle a bit every time I do it. Why? Well, years ago, the first church my family and I served after we left seminary had a number of older ladies who took great delight in feeding...
Ever Thirsting/Never Thirsting, by Bob Manuel
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6) "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I gave him will never thirst" (John 4:13) "On the last and greatest day of the Feast,...
Experience Real Joy Through Summer
I like June bugs. They remind me of my childhood. June bugs - you know, those little brown buzzy airborne bugs that come out in, well, June. (That’s why they call them June bugs rather than May or July bugs). If you can’t tell already, this month’s article...
